cookie monster.

The girl behind the silly pop culture rambles is Layla. She is 23, a first year law student of University of Santo Tomas.

She lives in the Philippines with her parents, an older brother and sister, two dogs (one hopelessly lost), and a computer that is perpetually afraid of thunder and lightning.

When she is not being overwhelmed by legalese, she spends her time trying to put together words that would hopefully make sense (and also one that is not an ultra-long case digest).  Either prose or poetry…but more likely prose.

Her time is not only spent in trying to marry words–she also draws (doodling, most likely), and making collages in Photoshop. Learning CSS for her is already an exercise in futility.

Her literary inspirations are ordinary events. Such as witnessing a quarrel between two persons inside a public transport on her way to class, or even the bad traffic that is the ordinary source of headache to the common Filipino driver. She does not know how to drive, hence, she uses public transport.

Flesh and blood literary inspirations (for both poetry and prose)include Margaret Atwood, Lucy Maud Montgomery, John Keats, Elizabeth and Robert Browning, Emily Dickinson, Matthew Arnold, W.E. Henley, Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Bradstreet, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Rosamunde Pilcher, Maeve Binchy, Frank Mc Court, and James Joyce.

She also enjoys chick literature.

Ands while she can, she lives for second hand bookstores, mainly to buy books and magazines. And also, coffee shops for that caramel macchiato and the rather maudlin pastime of people-watching. Despite her slight dislike for anything too elite, she still likes to see beautiful people.

Layla also adores anything vintage–Victorian, Edwardian–anything that is before the rather crazy 1980s. Although she is an 80s child herself. Her musical preferences run from Chopin to Danny Boy (an Irish folk song, also known as the Londonderry Air) to Gershwin to Louis Armstrong to musicals,  to T Rex and Audioslave. But she doesn’t say no to a few pop songs either, and still listens to a few sensible songs (if any) that were made by 50 Cent or any songs of the hiphop genre.

OTHER (IM)PERTINENT FACTS ABOUT LAYLA.
She’s that weird, yo.

She is mistress to two other blogs–and updates them as frequently as possible.

Also, she has a MySpace profile  and a Friendster profile. If you want to be added, comment for further instructions.
